About Nanostructured Polymeric Membrane Laboratory

The Nanostructured Polymeric Membranes Lab is part of the Water Desalination and Reuse Center at KAUST.  The group's research is focused on new polymeric materials, copolymer self-asembly and organic-inorganic nanocomposites for membrane, targeting water treatment, desalination and other applications.
Topics of interest:
  • Synthesis of new functionalized copolymers
  • Functionalization of nanofillers and development of organic-inorganic membranes
  • Thermodynamics and morphology control of supramolecular assembly of block copolymers in solution, functionalized nanoparticles and complexing agents, as tool for preparing nanostructured polymer films
  • Membrane development for nanofiltration, forward osmosis, membrane destilation
  • Integration of membrane and catalysis
  • Characterization of copolymer assemblies in solution and membranes by advanced microscopy and (synchrotron) scattering methods
