About Nanostructured Polymeric Membrane Laboratory

The research of the Nanostructured Polymeric Membranes Lab at KAUST is focused on new polymeric materials, copolymer self-assembly and organic-inorganic nanocomposites for membrane, surface modification, organic solvent resistant membranes, green membrane manufacture, targeting sustainable water reuse, separations in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biotech industry.

Topics of interest:

  • Synthesis of new functionalized copolymers
  • Functionalization of nanofillers and development of organic-inorganic membranes
  • Thermodynamics and morphology control of supramolecular assembly of block copolymers in solution, functionalized nanoparticles and complexing agents, as tool for preparing nanostructured polymer films
  • Membrane development for ultra- and nanofiltration (aqueous and in organic solvents), membrane distillation, etc
  • Integration of membrane and catalysis and bioelectrochemical system
  • Characterization of copolymer assemblies in solution and membranes by advanced microscopy and (synchrotron) scattering methods
